Credentials

Ms. Sequeira has a Bachelor of Laws (B.L) from the Madras Law College in India and a Masters degree in Law (M.C.J) from the University of Texas at Austin, Texas. She was a Research Assistant for Professor Bryan Garner and assisted in the compilation of the Oxford Law Dictionary, a joint venture between the University of Texas School of Law and the Oxford Press. She was the recipient of the University of Texas School of Law Scholarship and was a member of the International Law Society and the International Section of the Travis County Bar Association. Her experience includes immigration, corporate and litigation matters. Ms. Sequeira was previously associated with firms in Texas and California.

Ms. Sequeira's professional affiliations include the State Bar of California, the International Law Section of the State Bar of California and the American Immigration Lawyer's Association. She has also served as a volunteer immigration attorney for Catholic Charities, San Jose. Her office constantly monitors developments in immigration law and pays attention to providing detail-oriented and quality legal services to all clients.

Professional Membership

The American Immigration Lawyers Association is the national bar association of over 3,900 attorneys who practice immigration law. AILA Member attorneys represent tens of thousands of U.S. families who have applied for permanent residence for their spouses, children, and other close relatives to lawfully enter and reside in the United States. AILA Members also represent thousands of U.S. businesses and industries which sponsor highly skilled foreign workers seeking to enter the United States on a temporary or permanent basis. AILA Members also represent foreign students, entertainers, athletes, and asylum seekers, often on a pro bono basis.

Attorney Mercy Sequeira is a member of the California Bar. It is comprised principally of practicing lawyers, judges, court administrators, law teachers, public service attorneys and many non-practicing lawyers who are business executives, government officials, etc. The California bar represents practitioners in specialized areas of the law. It also represents affiliated, law-related organizations and groups with specialized interests or needs such as administrative law judges, lawyers in the armed forces, and minority and women's bar associations.
